The Season

I'm trying to appreciate this season of cold and snow. It's not easy, but I'm making a conscious effort. With respect to that effort, here is one of our boxwood bushes with snow. I don't actually think the boxwood appreciates the snow and 5 degree highs anymore than I do, but neither of us has a choice at the moment.
In other unimportant news, I haven't been able to use a Keurig coffee machine since a friend of mine posted an article on FB about all the bacteria that grow in them. I started using my normal pour-over, but it makes very uninspiring coffee. Finally I ordered an Aeropress (~$25), which is a little bit like a French press (I think, I've never used a French press). Wow. Such intense coffee flavor, and no more effort than the pour-over. I love it.

Hot coffee is helpful when you're trying to appreciate 5 degrees.

  1. That is a very beautiful photo of Snow On Bushes. Yes, I can see how coffee would be crucial, if the weather is so cruelly cold.

  2. Yes, indeed, coffee is critical to making it through the winter in a good mood! I didn't know that about the Keurig bacteria. I'm glad I don't have one. They don't make much sense to me anyway. We usually drink black coffee without flavorings, and we can make as much or as little as we want with our regular coffeemaker. Beautiful photo of the Boxwood!

  3. Good hot coffee does help with cold weather. Evergreens really come into their own on snowy days.

  4. Gorgeous photo! I'm not enjoying this cold weather either, but a little snow helps to make everything look prettier, at least. I didn't know about the bacteria in Keurigs--yuck! My mini-Keurig died after only 6 months, and I don't think I want to buy another after so many of my friends said they had similar problems. I've found just buying better coffee helps, regardless of the coffeemaker.

  5. I just got yet another cheapo coffee maker, and when it dies- because they all do, as I seem to be The Coffee Pot Killer- it looks like I'll need to look into an Aeropress. Maybe you could do a post on the Aeropress itself? Please? What you like about, what you don't, etc. Pretty, pretty please?

I LOVE boxwoods, but I've always read they need plenty of sunlight, and the bare places I'd like to fill with some shrubbery are in moderate to deep shade. I just love their leaves; so beautiful year-round.

    1. You know, I would never have chosen boxwood for our place (it's so cold here!) but a friend who helped us landscape the front chose them, and they've done really well since they're close to the house. They don't get much sun, though! They're on the north side of the house.

I will try to do a post on the Aeropress. I really like it, and it's so nice and simple.

  6. Brrrr....
I'm another person who didn't know about bacteria and Keurigs, so I will keep appreciating my regular coffee maker. Yes, please do a post on the Aeropress!
